Fight Night

WHAT?
A FIGHT NIGHT is both an event and the launch of an ongo­ing dis­ciple­ship oppor­tun­ity for young Chris­tian guys. A FIGHT NIGHT is essen­tially an oppor­tun­ity for Chris­tian guys to get real about the chal­lenges that come with liv­ing life in a sex –sat­ur­ated cul­ture. Each FIGHT NIGHT con­sists of some ‘blokey’ inter­act­ive phys­ical chal­lenges and fun, pas­sion­ate wor­ship, hon­est shar­ing about por­no­graphy, pur­ity, grow­ing in pas­sion­ate rela­tion­ship with God, and an oppor­tun­ity for discussion/​confession/​prayer in a small group setting.

Each guy attend­ing a FIGHT NIGHT receives a copy of ‘The Fight’ DVD resource, (see below for fur­ther inform­a­tion). Each youth/​young adult min­istry attend­ing a FIGHT NIGHT is encour­aged to cap­it­al­ise on the momentum and break­through that will take place for many young men on the night, by jour­ney­ing with their guys through ‘The Fight’ DVD resource in the weeks fol­low­ing the event. Sug­ges­tions for mak­ing the most of this ongo­ing dis­ciple­ship oppor­tun­ity are avail­able at THE FIGHT website’s lead­ers page.

WHY?
An incred­ibly high per­cent­age of young Aus­sie Chris­tian guys are strug­gling in these areas of life. In a recent sur­vey of 350 Aus­tralian Chris­tian guys (aver­age age 20 years), 63% had inten­tion­ally sought out and viewed por­no­graphy in the 3 months prior. In a sim­ilar sur­vey of youth lead­ers and youth pas­tors 56% had inten­tion­ally viewed porn in the three months prior When asked to describe their inter­ac­tion with por­no­graphy, just 7% said they never look at por­no­graphy, while 28% said they had a por­no­graphy prob­lem or were addicted to pornography.

WHO?
Chris­tian teen and young adults and their lead­ers from churches all over Aus­tralia are par­ti­cip­at­ing in Fight Nights in 2009. Sev­eral churches from a vari­ety of denom­in­a­tions from across Bris­bane will be involving their youth and young adult min­is­tries in this event, the only Bris­bane Fight Night for 2009.

COST?
A charge of $15 per per­son enables Round­about Min­is­tries to cover the cost of the night AND give each guy attend­ing a copy of ‘The Fight’ DVD resource (RRP $32.95).

WHAT NOW?
RSVP from youth and young adults groups is ESSENTIAL in the weeks lead­ing up to the event. This will enable us to ensure suf­fi­cient cop­ies of ‘The Fight’ DVD resource are avail­able for those attend­ing. This will also ensure that venue is not over­booked. It’s also import­ant that the key leader/​pastor from each church attend­ing has con­tact with the event organ­iser in the lead up to the event. This will enable you to get the most out of the small group com­pon­ent of the night.
