Junior Youth Group ROCKS!

Hi! Our names are Nick and Nicole Silva and we are in charge of the new ROCK min­istry. We have been at KBC for about four years and have been mar­ried for nearly three years. Nick is an account­ant
and Nicole is cur­rently work­ing in fin­an­cial ser­vices; how­ever, she has been in teach­ing pre­vi­ously. When she left teach­ing, we decided we’d like to get involved in a kids min­istry of some sort, as we both love kids. At this stage the concept of ROCK was just being dis­cussed, and was need­ing someone to head it up. Both of us felt called to be involved, and though neither of us felt cap­able to lead it by ourselves, together we felt we’d make a great team.

We both really enjoy work­ing with chil­dren, and not hav­ing come from Christi an homes ourselves, con­sider it a great priv­ilege and bless­ing to be able to share the love of Jesus with those kids in our community.

ROCK stands for Reach­ing Out to Com­munity Kids, and is built upon the fact that the Lord is our rock. Psalm 18:31 is our motiv­a­tion, which says ‘For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the rock except our God?’

It is a youth group for years 5 – 7 that runs each Fri­day night from 6 – 7.30pm at the church. A stand­ard night usu­ally involves lots of games and activ­it­ies, some wor­ship and teach­ing, and din­ner to fin­ish it all off (for a cost of $5).

At the moment we have a core team of lead­ers and a fant­astic group of high school help­ers. How­ever, we would love to hear from any­one inter­ested in join­ing the lead­er­ship team or help­ing with the pre­par­a­tion of din­ner each week.
