The Girls’ Bri­gade is an Inter­na­tional, Inter­de­nom­in­a­tional, Uni­formed Vol­un­tary Organ­isa­tion for girls between the ages of 5 and 18 years. The aim of the Girls’ Bri­gade is to help girls become fol­low­ers of the Lord Jesus Christ, through self-​​control, rev­er­ence and sense of respons­ib­il­ity to find true enrich­ment of life.

The Girls’ Bri­gade has Com­pan­ies in over 51 coun­tries and islands in the world. The Girls’ Bri­gade was ori­gin­ally foun­ded in 1894 in Dub­lin, Ire­lend, with organ­isa­tions called the Girls’ Guil­dry being foun­ded in 1900 in Glas­gow, Scot­land and in 1902 the Girls’ Life Bri­gade foun­ded in England.

In 1965 these three organ­isa­tions, all doing sim­ilar work, came together to form the Girls’ Bri­gade as we know it today. Our badge has sym­bols from all three organ­isa­tions. In the centre a Cross, the sym­bol of Christ and his Church. Below is a Lamp that our light may shine out upon the world. Above is a Crown, that we may own Christ as our King. Behind it all a Torch, the flame of Christ’s liv­ing Spirit and our devo­tion to him.

In Ken­more, the 65th Bris­bane Com­pany has been oper­at­ing as a min­istry of Ken­more Baptist Church for over 20 years.

There are four aspects of the Girls’ Bri­gade Program:

  • SPIRITUAL
    Includes Devo­tions, Bible Stud­ies and Quizzes.
  • PHYSICAL
    Includes games, camps and sport­ing activities.
  • SOCIAL
    Includes out­ings, vis­it­ing speak­ers and groups.
  • EDUCATIONAL
    Includes crafts, badge work, projects.

Each activ­ity is adap­ted to the vari­ous age levels which are:

  • Cadets: Grades 1 – 3
  • Juni­ors: Grades 4 – 6
  • Seni­ors: Grades 7 – 8
  • Pion­eers: Grades 9 – 12

Spe­cial Requirements

  • Fees — $68/​year (or $17/​term) for the first child. Each addi­tional child $60/​year or $15/​term.
  • Uni­form Cost — $50-$60 (second-​​hand uni­forms are avail­able from time to time).
