‘World evangelisation requires the whole church to take the whole gospel to the whole world’

PHILOSOPHY
The Ministry and Mission arm of Kenmore Baptist Church is to fulfil the fourth area of the Church’s overall purpose statement: To communicate Christ to the world. We attempt to achieve this through:

  • Loving and caring relationship with unbelievers
  • Ongoing reproduction of our life in Christ by evangelism
  • Penetration of our society and the world by discipleship that meets needs.

Our core values include the following:

  • We believe that lost and needy people throughout the world matter to God, and therefore ought to matter to the church and its people
  • We believe that the church should be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure

The mission of Kenmore Baptist Church is “to turn spiritual seekers into fully committed followers of Jesus Christ.”

We have a four-fold strategy:

TO WIN
Many ministry activities are run by the church to connect our people with non-Christians, and provide opportunity for evangelism to take place. Social and sporting activities such as International Nights, netball, soccer, rockclimbing, outdoor adventure activities — Horizons, canoeing, bush walks are included. We invite the unchurched to join these events.
We establish contacts and build bridges of friendship with people in our community, offering assistance as needed in order to share the love of Christ. We also run outreach services and major performances by our Directions Musical Company in an attempt to reach the unchurched. For new migrants and overseas students, we assist with elementary English classes. During the winter school holidays, we run our annual Kids Holiday Club.
All in all, through our lives and lips, we communicate the gospel. When the time is right, we lead seekers to make a personal commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ.

TO BUILD
We work in conjunction with the Cultivation arm of KENMORE BAPTIST CHURCH to help establish the faith of new believers. Here, they are nurtured through a program of personal follow-up, and the network of small groups.
Courses such as Alpha, Christianity Explained, New Christian Basics, 1 – 1 Discipleship and 1 – 1 Evangelism training are offered to assist people to grow and ultimately reproduce themselves.

TO TRAIN
According to their individual spiritual giftedness, we put a growing Christian through a process of personal development, SHAPE discovery, ministry placement, and further in-house ministry training so they might be an effective part of the church’s ministry and mission.

TO SEND
Like Abraham in the Old Testament, we believe we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Hence, we educate and equip believers in the faith to obey the teachings of Jesus Christ by encouraging them to “Go… make disciples of all nations”.
The Lausanne Covenant states, “World evangelisation requires the whole church to take the whole gospel to the whole world”. Therefore, we assist the Fellowship in the area of communicating Christ to the world through teaching, training and ministry involvement. Throughout the year, we motivate our people to pray for missions and support our missionaries. We also encourage the responsive ones to participate in mission by their financial giving and/or going for short-term trips to the mission field.
Undoubtedly, those who are called to serve God for an indefinite period of time are worthy of our on-going support. We continue to increase our involvement by supporting homegrown missionaries and those serving in mission agencies.

How will these goals be realised?

  • By praying — mobilizing Small Groups and ministry teams to pray for wisdom and conviction, strengthening our personal, family and corporate life.
  • By planning — developing a flight path that will facilitate the realising of our goals; to streamline our activities to fit our overall purpose statement.
  • By practising — engaging each team in our Fellowship to own, promote and realise our collective God-given vision and goals.
  • By persevering — keeping the people focussed on the goal and not get sidetracked by secondary activities.
  • By pacing — reminding our people that we are in for the long haul, to keep everyone growing steadily without losing heart.

THE FUTURE
The future is as bright as the promises of God. We trust God will lead us beyond our present situation and lead us on to greater heights. We need to continue growing deeply to BE God’s people as well as DO God’s work.
