We aim:
- To offer formal, professional support to, or informal, friendly interaction with those in the community who are facing personal or relational distress, trauma, grief, hardship or isolation.
- To encourage, empower, equip and support people in their personal circumstances.
- To assist people in developing and maintaining healthy relationships.
As part of caring for people within the local area, KBC Counselling has a team of counsellors who have completed, or are undergoing, formal training in the area of counselling as outlined below. All counsellors working in this service endeavour to provide a professionally competent service.Information disclosed in counselling sessions will remain confidential unless there is a danger of harm being caused to yourself or others, or unless there are legal implications resulting from what has been disclosed.
Fees
Payment is to be made at time of consultation. There is a concession for Health Care Card holders. Family Therapy and after hours counselling will incur an extra fee. A cancellation fee will be charged if no less than 24 hours notice is given by the client.

Personal Counselling covers a wide range of issues including grief/loss, abuse, depression, addictions, eating disorders, self-esteem, anger, self-harm, anxiety, financial, legal and mediation assistance.

Relationship, Marriage and Pre-Marriage Counselling
Relationship Counselling deals with the complexities of human inter-relationships and focuses on helping people address ineffective communication patterns that prevent them from building satisfying, loving and lasting relationships. Marriage Counselling deal with the major issues that arise between partners in marriage such as communication, personality differences, sexual expression, and in-laws. Pre-marriage counselling assists couples intending to marry to prepare for marriage.
Family Counselling
Family Counselling assists those with relational, financial and social issues within a family system. Included in this area of counselling is conflict mediation and resolution between parents and children including adolescents and siblings.
Addiction Counselling
This area of counselling focuses on providing coping strategies for a range of addictive behaviours, ranging through substance abuse, gambling, eating disorders and sexual addiction.
Spiritual Counselling
Many people go through times of needing assistance in finding and developing a spiritual centre in their lives or in developing their faith. KBC Counselling provides special help in this area from a number of experienced counsellors.
Counselling of Children, Adolescents and Young Adults
This involves helping children and young people with their particular life issues including sexual, physical and social abuse, domestic violence and suicide. It may also involve assistance with personal, relational and school and employment issues.
Referrals for Specialised Assistance
At times people need more specialised counselling, advice, information or medical assistance. Knowing what to do about life’s difficulties is not always easy. Qualified psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, General Practitioners, speech pathologists and pastors are readily available through the KBC Counselling, or arrangements may be made with other centres as required.
What Happens in a Counselling Session?
During your first session, your counsellor will ask about the circumstances that led you to seek counselling. At the end of the session, you and your counsellor will discuss if further counselling would be helpful for you.Sessions last for about an hour. The frequency of appointments depends on your needs.
